Testimonials of Healing (Nashville)
The following testimonies were submitted by individuals who have experienced how Christian Science has worked in their lives. Healing of physical, emotional, and psychological issues have been reported internationally for over 100 years, but the following testimonies are exclusively from people in Middle Tennessee.
Calming potential violence
"I was eating out one evening. After the meal I was getting ready to leave the restaurant when I saw out the window a man fighting with two young ladies in the parking lot. I went out and looked to see what I could do. Nobody else seemed to care what was going on. The two girls were trying to get into their car to leave. The man was drunk and would not leave them alone. I was praying the whole time. I knew God was with me. I walked over to the man and said, "You either leave or you will have to deal with me." While I was talking to the man the girls got into their car and left. The man waited a few minutes and then turned around and left. I am so grateful for God's mercy and presence."

Sight restored
At one time, I was practically blind in one eye. The ophthalmologist said there was no cure. I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me and actively prayed for myself. I read the Bible Lesson every day, and kept affirming that God is all-present, all-powerful. As the Bible says all things are possible to God. There were several turning points. I realized I couldn't see at all one evening after I'd gotten angry at a colleague. It occurred to me that I needed to "see" this man differently. I needed to see him as Mrs. Eddy describes the spiritual view of man and woman on page 475 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. It was difficult because I disliked him so much, but physical healing often comes from a radical change in thought and perspective from the human view to a spiritual view. I kept praying with page 475 until I could see a more spiritual view of this person. Then I began doing this with any situation that was difficult or that upset me. I stopped thinking all the time about how I wasn't seeing well, and instead began to pay more attention to how I was thinking and to see co-workers and situations not as merely material and human but realize their spiritual essence as a reflection of God's Being. 2 Corinthians 3:18 was so helpful. "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." Another turning point was when I stopped being afraid and really knew that God was all-acting and all-powerful. God was in control. I just needed to align my thoughts with God's spiritual view. About a month later, I realized that I was healed. I've cherished this healing for many years and thank God for the Christ healing power and transforming care.

Back pain and family difficulty yield to Truth
"A few years ago I was having trouble with my back. I found it painful to sit or to get up from sitting. When this first happened, I wondered what could be the problem. I am used to praying about any problem in my life and I could see this was one I needed to address right away. Because I was in a great deal of pain and fearful, I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. This person gladly accepted my request.
When praying I have learned to always begin my prayer by recognizing what God knows about me as His child. I turned my thought away from thinking about the problem and began listening to His voice. The practitioner gave me some citations from the Bible and Science and Health to read and study. A citation from Science and Health stood out to me. It reads, "The erroneous belief that life, substance, and intelligence can be material ruptures the life and brotherhood of man at the very outset." (p. 541:16) I was having a problem with a family situation. There was a lot of unhappiness and I felt drawn into it. I prayed to see God's presence there for all of us.
A few days later while praying this idea came to me that everything about me was made by God. Everything about me reflected Love. All my actions and thoughts reflected Love. All the parts of my body reflected Love. My arm wouldn't say to my hand, "I don't want to work with you today." All things work together for good to them that love God..." (Romans 8:28) Everything about me was working together in harmony. Every part of me was loving and loveable. That was true about my family members too. We were all working together for good.
I don't remember when the pain left because I felt so loved. The family situation was resolved. I am grateful for these experiences that help us see God's presence and power in our lives."

Confirming God's Love
"Recently, while at my son's house visiting, I fell down some stairs. While still on the floor I prayed to see my completeness as God's child. I was able to walk but with much discomfort. As the days went by it seemed to get worse not better. Finally I realized I needed to see God's completeness and love more clearly. I sat quietly and confirmed God's love for all his children. I reasoned that God is all in all so he knows all and governs all. If He is all good and is everywhere nobody can be outside of His omnipotent care. Shortly after that I walked my dog to the park and each step brought more freedom. I was so filled with a sense of God's love for his universe and me. The birds were singing and the sky was blue in the crisp morning air that I forgot all about my foot. As I arrived home I realized I was completely healed. I am so grateful for all I am learning about my completeness as a child of God."

No Accidents
"One day when I got out of my car in a parking lot, I was immediately down on the ground, draped over one of those concrete blocks that mark parking spaces. I apparently tripped over one of the blocks and landed ribs-to-concrete on another of those blocks. There was specific pain in my rib area and my whole body felt shaken.
Even before I got up I started to think about God. I knew that God was loving me as He always did, and so had not allowed some other force to get to me and to harm me. I knew I could pray and that God would heal me. I used my cell and called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me.
I was able to finish shopping and drive home, praying the whole time. I kept thinking about a statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, "Under divine providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." (p. 424) I reasoned that since God's government is perfect, and total, I could not experience an accident and then suffer from the after affects. That sounds pretty radical. But I knew it was true about God and His care for me.
I also thought about how God is Spirit and that as His likeness I had to be spiritual. (In the Bible in Genesis 1:26-27 it tells that God made man in His image and likeness.) A simple idea came to me, and that was that you can't break or damage something spiritual. That was comforting.
I kept praying, thinking about God and how He was continuing to take perfect care of me. By the next morning I was feeling much more comfortable though had a bit of pain with certain movements. Within a few days there was no trace of pain no matter how I moved.
I was so grateful for another example of God's practical love for me. I think God is always saying to us, "You can trust Me. I love you and am taking care of you. Nothing can change that."
